Cardiovascular Medical Terminology

Medical transcriptionists require knowledge of medical terminology to succeed. Medical testing can prove difficult to remember, especially those specific to particular specialties or body parts. There are many tests that are specific to the knee and performed by orthopedic doctors to determine diagnoses.

Knee Tests Performed by Orthopedic Doctors

Before progressing to specific tests, the orthopedic doctor will perform a basic knee exam. Special knee tests performed will depend on the differential diagnosis. These tests include:

  • ACL laxity – Lachman’s test, anterior drawer test, and pivot shift test
  • PCL laxity – Posterior drawer test and sag test
  • LCL/MCL laxity – Varus/valgus stress testing
  • Meniscal Tears – Apley’s test, McMurray’s test
  • Patella testing – Grind test, Clarke’s test, Zohler’s test, patella apprehension test, Fairbank’s test, Patella tilt test
  • Iliotibial Band Irritation – Noble’s test, Ober’s test, Renne’s test,
  • Medial Plica – Stutter test, Patellar bowstring test

These tests are performed by the orthopedic doctor during his exam of the knee. If the results of these tests warrant further investigation, radiographic studies or other diagnostic tests might be performed.
