Dana Carvey Stand Up Dvd
The X-Files: The Complete First Season Collector's Edition DVD set (originally released in 2003) is a smart addition to any television series collector’s arsenal. Sporting numerous and fun special features, accompanied by various “behind the scenes” information sessions with the show’s creator, directors, writers, cast and crew, it really stands out from the other 90’s television shows, sci-fi or other, recently released on DVD.
The X-Files at the Beginning
Chris Carter, creator, writer, director, executive producer and periodic cameo maker, described the show’s genesis as having been inspired by other such classic television series as The Twilight Zone and Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Working his way up the ladder in television writing, starting his career as a writer for Hanna-Barbera and continuing mostly in comedy, his urge to do something unique and different eventually drove him to create The X-Files, a show that serves as a template for nearly all current serial dramas. He pitched the show to Fox twice (after being denied the first time, he came back prepared with props and cutouts of mini television screens) before he was finally accepted.
The general idea for the show consists of two FBI agents that have vastly different viewpoints and backgrounds, each with their own merits and disadvantages, who are assigned to a division that the FBI prefers to ignore: The X-Files. The X-Files contains unsolved cases unable to be explained as anything other than paranormal. Special Agent Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) is an Oxford educated psychologist with a penchant to rebel against religious institutions and beliefs, but remains an avid believer in all things supernatural and unexplainable. Special Agent Dr. Dana Scully (played by Gillian Anderson) is a fiercely dedicated medical doctor with her beliefs based solely in science, regardless of Mulder’s insistence or evidence to indicate otherwise, and an equally dedicated Roman Catholic who has fallen away from her faith. This dynamic of opposition is essentially what draws these two people together into an everlasting partnership that tests the boundaries of belief, faith and, most importantly, trust.
The X-Files First Complete Season
Twenty-four episodes comprise the first season. Considering the show first aired on September 10, 1993, the picture quality is really rather good. There is an eleven minute documentary entitled “The Truth about Season One” that discusses the show’s origin, casting process and other fun facts; Carter also discusses twelve of his favorite episodes from the season. There are twelve “Behind-the-Truth” spots that originally aired on the F/X channel when the show first started syndication, promotional televisions spots for every episode, a special effects clip from the episode “Fallen Angel,” deleted scenes from the “Pilot” episode and a “Roots of Conspiracy” DVD-ROM game that can be accessed through a computer.
Each season contains a number of mythology episodes, or, those that are separate from the regular paranormal cases that the agents regularly investigate. These mythology episodes span over nine seasons and include the first movie, The X-Files: Fight the Future, which falls between seasons five and six, and helps to establish the main conspiracy, a secret government agency within the government, that the agents seek to uncover and share with the public at large. There are five of these in the first season, which in comparison to later seasons, is about average; there are sixty in all. They include the episodes “Pilot,” “Deep Throat,” “Fallen Angel,” “E.B.E” and “The Erlenmeyer Flask”. The X-Files: The Complete First Season slim set edition is available for purchase at Amazon for $19.49. The Collector's Edition is available from various sellers on Amazon and Ebay.
